Fly Fishing in the Catskills

“The fish and I were both stunned and disbelieving to find ourselves connected by a line..”

If it is your first time fly fishing, or even if you have done it before, a guided session with Catskill Outfitters will prove to be invaluable. It is a full service session with all the equipment and guidance you will need. Paul is very patient and knowledgeable and really enjoys seeing you succeed. You gear up at the shop and then you’re off to your first fishing spot where Paul gives you an introduction to casting (if you need it) and a general overview of the water flow and the day’s fishing strategy. I recommend a full day session because the morning session goes by quickly, and by the afternoon you will have the basics down and an opportunity to catch some fish. We had a great day and learned so much more than if I had tried to do it myself. If you need any supplies stop by the shop where all very knowledgeable and can help you setup your gear and make fly recommendations. It was our first time fly fishing and the whole experience was awesome.

Had a GREAT FALL DAY on the Esopus River yesterday with a phenomenal Catskill Outfitter's Guide, Paul Schiavo .. It was a lifelong dream fulfilled for this NYC  boy to one day, learn to fly fish. Booking this trip was one of the best things I've ever done. Paul made me work on the stream, but I was grateful at the end of the day on how much I've learned.

Yep, found out today, fly fishing is ADDICTIVE ! — at Catskill Outfitters.

Landon was AWESOME! I had a great time, he’s great company, and I learned a lottttt.

I just went out today and caught my first brown ever on a nymph (by myself) using everything we did yesterday.

It wasn’t huge but I don’t care! It was a nice little fattie and gave me the boost to keep at it. I’ve been dry fly fishing for 20yrs, so this is a whole new ball game and a bit humbling to learn.

The skills Paul taught me out on the Esopus last year still resonate with me. Line maintenance, keeping constant line contact, avoiding drag and casting accuracy are all becoming a bit more natural...allowing for some fish in the net and even more fun on the water. So thankful for your patient tutelage and can’t wait to get out and fish with you soon.
